House Rules
Gumbo is a relaxed spot to laugh, swap movies, books and podcasts, and show off what you can do. A few simple rules keep the pot tasting good for everyone.
1. Leave work at the door
Gumbo is a place to unwind. Don't post, ask about, or share anyone's job, profession, or employer — and don't tag, contact, or report members to their workplace. What happens in the pot stays in the pot.
2. Be kind, roast gently
Jokes are welcome; cruelty isn't. No harassment, bullying, hate speech, or threats. Comedy should punch up, not down at fellow members.
3. Share what's yours
Only upload videos, music, readings, and podcasts you made or have the right to share. For movies and books, share links, trailers, reviews, and recommendations — not pirated copies.
4. Celebrate talent
Showing off is the point. Cheer people on, give helpful feedback when asked, and never repost someone's talent as your own.
5. Keep it private
Don't post anyone's personal info — addresses, phone numbers, workplaces, or private messages — without their OK.
6. Keep it legal and adults-only content out
No nudity, sexual content, graphic violence, or anything illegal.
7. No spam or selling
No ads, repeated self-promotion, scams, or recruiting. This is a hangout, not a marketplace.
Contest rules
Show off, have fun, maybe win something. Here's how it works.
🏆 Who hosts
Only the Gumbo team runs contests. If anyone else announces a "Gumbo contest," it isn't official.
🏆 Who can enter
Any signed-in member in good standing (no suspensions). One entry per member per contest, and it has to be your own original post in that contest's section. Hosts can't enter their own contests.
🏆 Prizes
Each contest lists its prize up front. Prizes can't be swapped for cash or traded, and we'll message the winner on Gumbo to sort out delivery. If a winner doesn't reply within 14 days, we may pick a runner-up.
🏆 Deadlines
Every contest shows an end date and time. Entries close at that moment — late entries don't count. You can withdraw your entry any time before the deadline.
🏆 How winners are picked
After the deadline, the host picks a winner based on creativity, fun factor and how well it fits the theme. Picks are final, and the winner is shown right on the contest card.
🏆 The board
The host puts spots on the board, members claim them, and anyone can challenge a holder. The host picks who takes the spot. Don't get comfortable — nobody holds a spot forever. Tuesday is talent scouting night: the night to look for new artists and challenge people for their spots.
🏆 Challenge-offs
Nobody gets comfortable. Any member can challenge another member off the board — the challenged member can accept or decline. The host picks who takes the spot. If you lose, you're out until you pay that spot's challenge fee to start over. Fees go to the host by Cash App or Venmo, and the host confirms them.
🏆 The 50/50 — stay smooth
Play smooth and you're in on the 50/50. Stealing, blocking people on purpose, or getting greedy cancels your 50/50 on the spot — no notice, no warning. It's a gesture from the host, never owed. To get back in, you start over with an ice breaker challenge.
🏆 Keep it clean
Entries must follow all House Rules. Any entry that breaks them — or tries to game the contest with fake accounts — is disqualified.
Our policy
Posts that break these rules may be removed, and repeat or serious breaks can lead to an account being suspended.
You own what you post. By sharing, you let Gumbo show it to other members. You can delete your posts any time from your profile.
We don't sell your information. Your messages are visible only to you and the person you're chatting with.
By using Gumbo you agree to these rules. They may be updated as the community grows.
